In Pune city, Maharashtra, India, an innovative approach is being taken to providing cervical cancer screening to women who otherwise would not get access to screening: The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) supports the Prayas screening programme.
A mobile screening clinic – a specially-equipped van – visits areas of the city where women who otherwise couldn’t afford to take the time to visit a clinic can benefit from cervical cancer screening. The mobile clinic also has facilities for treating women whose screening results are positive.
Colposcopy, biopsy and other treatment can be provided at a clinic in Prayas which is also involved with the programme.
